Idyllwilld International Festival of Cinema: 2011

Want to start 2011 out with some great flicks in a fantastic setting? Make your reservations at our Idyllwild vacation rental and get your tickets for the Idyllwild Independent Festival of Cinema (IIFC), to be held January 13-15 in Idyllwild, CA.

This year’s festival will include over 40 different films, ranging in length from 10-minute shorts to feature-length productions. Selections include moving and thought-provoking documentaries, world-class dramas, comedies, and a touch of “scary, fantasy, and weird.”

New this year are additional cinema-related seminars and events, giving attendees an inside view of the movie industry specific to independent film-making.

Last year, the festival drew 800 people. This year, organizers expect 2,000 attendees. Filmmaker Stephen Savage, who splits his time between Idyllwild and Los Angeles, directed the 2010 festival and is again leading the event in its sophomore year.

Winterfest starts with the 50^th Annual Tree Lighting on November 27 and starts just after Thanksgiving and runs well into the new year. The month and a half is full of ongoing and one-time events for the whole family.

Highlights include the Tree Lighting (of course!) as well as a decorating contest (the whole town is lit up as most local businesses participate!) And every weekend, Santa’s workshop is open for photos (both kids and pets!), activities, crafts, and lots more.

As soon as 5 inches of snow accumulate, the Snow Sculpture Building gets underway. On Christmas Eve there’s a gingerbread decorating contest. And all month long there are special performances, concerts, caroling, meals, parties, and more.
